Campus community Hotspot a case study 11 february 2004 12u00 – 14u00Speaker: Mr. Robert Lavigne , Director Provinciale Limburgse Hogeschool
Abstract:
In many countries education was one of the early adopters of WLAN . The Provinciale Hogeschool Limburg is a high school based in Hasselt and Tongeren and is a pioneer in Belgium with the introduction of WLAN on its campus. Anytime anywhere learning is brought to reality in Limburg. The presentation gives an overview of the project in terms of architecture, technology and implementation. What are the lessons learned making this a success in a school with 4000 students and 400 professors? What was the user experience for the students and what is the evaluation after 2 years of WLAN operations at the Campus? The lecture also gives some future direction on the further integration of E-learning on the Campus and beyond.

Until recently the WLAN market has been vertically focused by industry. Early adoption was limited to those companies where workers where not bound to their desktops like retail, warehousing, logistics, hotels,… The increasing take up of WLAN equipment together with wireless-enabled laptops has created a user base for public wireless hot spots. Unfortunately there is a thin line between reality and wishful thinking.
The FITCE lunch sessions on HOTSPOTS offer you a unique opportunity to keep up to date with the latest evolutions and insight by industry professionals in terms of public wireless LAN applications.
